How to play?
Chinese Chess, also known as Xiangqi, is a traditional Chinese strategy board game played between two players. The game consists of a board divided by the “River” and 32 pieces, with each side controlling 16 pieces. Players take turns moving their pieces according to specific movement rules, aiming to outmaneuver their opponent through strategic planning, attack, and defense. The objective is to place the opponent’s General in checkmate. With its rich tactical possibilities and strategic depth, Xiangqi is both an enjoyable pastime and a highly engaging intellectual challenge.
Ability Training
Chinese Chess is an excellent activity for developing strategic thinking, logical reasoning, and decision-making skills. During gameplay, players must remember piece movements, analyze changing board positions, anticipate their opponent’s actions, and adapt their strategies accordingly. These mental processes help strengthen working memory, concentration, executive function, and cognitive flexibility. In addition, long-term engagement with chess-like activities supports problem-solving abilities and complex planning skills. For older adults, Chinese Chess provides meaningful cognitive stimulation while also encouraging social interaction, communication, and lifelong learning.
